Big Sur & Cone Peak

Sea to summit in the new year

Epic Backpacking adventures

We had some adventures, and there were adventures to be had. This was the largest group that I had been backpacking with. Usually it would be just me and Matt and maybe an amigo. But this time Josh, Andrew and Omid joined in on an epic adventure into the many wildernesses.

Some fun driving into the Sur

Our first day was a halfday hike, about 6.5 miles. It was all uphill since we were headinn up a mountain (makes sense).

From this point we would do a 25 mile loop up to Cone Peak. I’m writing this a year and a half later so I’m just kind of guessing the miles. Not really sure to be honest but it sounds about right.

Cone Peak

The peak has an elevation of 5,155ft (actual number, seriously) and is the highest costal mountain in the lower 48 states. There’s snow at the top. Keep looking.

The hike from our first site to the rigde was the most nar. Super brutal.

Got to the peak around midday. There is a fire lookout hut at the top. We were not expecting the snow but it was sweet. bam.

We were not really prepared for camping in the snow. We were ready for the cold, but not so snowy. Luckly we were able to start a fire. I burned Omid’s favorite shirt trying to dry it. Got to close to the fire. Sorry Omiy.
